Min Matsikenyeri launches Agric4She in Chimanimani

Agric4She was launched in Chimanimani at an event that was held at Ngangu Grounds on 28 December 2022.

The programme was spearheaded by the First Lady of Zimbabwe, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa in a bid to eradicate hunger in the communities.

The program focuses at empowering vulnerable women who are involved in agriculture. These include those in urban and peri urban settlements.

For one to qualify in that scheme, a woman has to fall into one of the following categories: physically impaired, elderly, orphan headed family, chronically ill, widow or high dependency ratio.

Minister Matsikenyeri plants maize in a Pfumvudza demo plot

The beneficiaries where given a package of 2kg maize seed, 16kg compound D basal fertilizer, 16kg top dress AN fertilizer and 1 pack vegetable combo.

The Pfumvudza (smart agriculture) package covers a plot size of 39m by 16m which is a equivalent to 0.0624ha or 1 over 16 of a hectare. This gives an expected yield of 52 buckets per plot.

In a speech read on her behalf by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Manicaland, Hon Nokuthula Matsikenyeri, the First Lady indicated that the programme aims at empowering women through agriculture.

She promised to introduce fisheries under Agric4She.
