The event which took place at Chipinge Town Council park saw several Chipinge stakeholders taking part in it.

The tree planting ceremony was led by the Forest Commission’s District Forestry and Extension Officer, Robinson Toronga.

Private learning institution, Herentals College Chipinge is the one that donated the trees to Chipinge Town Council for this year’s re-greening exercise.

District Development Coordinator for Chipinge Mr William Mashava was guest of honour and he planted his tree.

Speaking to this publication on the sidelines of the event, Herentals College Chipinge School Head, Ms Tinashe Muneta said that the school is complimenting the government policy on green cities.
“The government is implementing the concept of green cities. We are just implementing what is encouraged by the central government.

“Planting of trees help conserve our environment. We are also mourning 10 people who lost lives in Matebeleland South who died conserving the environment by fighting a bush fire. We honour them by planting these trees,” she said.
