TODAY is the day when the death of Jesus Christ is celebrated worldwide by a religious organisation, Jehovah’s Witnesses (JWs).

“The Memorial is a celebration of Jesus’ death not his resurrection,” says JW’s official website, jw.org. It adds that Jehovah’s Witnesses observe this Memorial each year on the anniversary of his death according to the Bible’s lunar calendar, a date which tallies with Nisan 14. Therefore, this year’s Nissan 14 falls on April 4 (today).

According to the organisation, the Memorial program is held in the evening and will last for one hour. The event shall be held in all 118 000 congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 239 countries where the organisation is active. During the previous year, the Memorial was attended by nearly 20 million people globally.

The organisation further states that the Memorial event is free to everyone and its main feature is a talk about the importance of Jesus’ death and how people can benefit from what God and Christ have done for mankind.
